Tips For An Easy Move To Your New Home

When thinking about buying a new house in central Missouri, most people think about the process of shopping for homes, getting approved for a mortgage loan, and negotiating the actual sale of the home. At closing, your new home will officially become yours - but the process is far from over!

After purchasing your new home, it's time to move all of your belongings and get settled in. Moving can be a major undertaking, though, so it's important to approach it strategically! Here are a few tips to make moving to your new home much easier from the team at Devine & Associates Real Estate.

1.  Give Yourself Plenty Of Time
Even if this is not your first move, you may very well be amazed how much time it takes you to get everything packed. There's no point in stressing yourself out by doing everything at the last minute! Begin packing the items you use infrequently at least a month before you plan to move.

2.  Pack Strategically
This may seem like a no-brainer, but it's important to be strategic about your packing methods. Start with things you don't use regularly, such as out-of-season clothes or the miscellaneous items in storage downstairs. Next, pack the things you use occasionally, but infrequently. Save the things you use on a daily basis for last.

3.  Label EVERYTHING
There are few things as frustrating as having to unpack everything in a box just to find out that the specific item you were looking for is not even in it. Make your life easier by writing the contents of each box on the outside, and go the extra mile by also writing which room the contents of the box will belong in in the new house. Taking this extra time upfront will save you a great deal of time in the long run!

4.  Pack A Separate Bag For The First Night
Moving is exhausting. Chances are that loading all of your boxes into vehicles and unloading them into your new house will be enough to wipe you out for the day; you may not have energy to also begin unpacking boxes on your very first night in the new house. Make your life easier by packing a separate overnight bag that contains all the essentials that you need for your first night. You can start digging into the other boxes tomorrow.

5.  Make The Most Of Moving Boxes You Already Have
You'll probably still have to track down extra cardboard boxes, but you can greatly decrease the amount of moving boxes you'll have to borrow by maximizing the moving materials you already have. Suitcases, storage crates, bags, and baskets double as great moving tools!

6.  DOWNSIZE
It's amazing how much stuff tends to pile up in our closets, basements, and spare bedrooms. Moving is the perfect opportunity to go through these storage hot spots and get rid of everything you don't need anymore. There's no point in moving things you don't want into your new space.

7.  Pack Valuable Items Yourself
Hiring professionals can be a godsend during the moving process. Professional movers tend to be incredibly efficient and can greatly simplify the entire process, but it's always better to be safe than sorry. Save yourself unnecessary worrying by packing medications and valuables yourself and transporting them in your vehicle with you.

If done right, these tips can guarantee a much simpler moving experience. Be sure to keep them in mind for the next time you're thinking about moving to the Lake of the Ozarks! What other moving tips do you have? Leave us a comment below and let us know!
